Not too long ago, I wrote a piece on Alexander T. “Sasha” Shulgin, the pioneering drug chemist and the possibly alchemical connections between his two drug-autobiographies, PIHKAL and TIHKAL. There, I mentioned a very curious news article I discovered which had him playing viola with an orchestra at a gig during the infamous Bohemian Grove gathering in the forests of California.
In that piece, I wasn’t quite sure how best to look at Shulgin, who proselytized for MDMA’s therapeutic uses and had since lost his DEA lab license.
Well, now there’ s a new wrinkle in the story.
Alex Jones, human lightening rod, libertarian, and preacher-investigator of today’s deep political shadow, has anonymously received a members’ list for Bohemian Grove. Listed among the members: Alexander T. “Sasha” Shulgin. If the list is legitimate, it certainly brings a whole new perceptual filter to bear on Shulgin, his life and work.
The date listed next to Shulgin’s name, which bears an asterisk, is March 12, 1959. Does this indicate the first year he attended the Bohemian Grove gathering or when he first became a member? That might make a difference. And assuming Shulgin’s membership is legitimate, one wonders. Do you suppose they have him in the club because they love his viola playing? or his drugs?
Or something else?
If that list is legit, Sasha’s Bohemian Grove connection starts to look more Hegelian and less Taoist…
And why an anonymous member would send Jones’ a list is a topic ripe for all sorts of speculation. Think we’ll ever know?

Well holy carp! (Don’t know ’bout you, but I prefer fish to shit…)
You may enjoy this little anecdote Cadeveo…
I have a friend (I use the term loosely) who made some interesting claims about her recent alleged experience with Bohemian Grove.
Her current boyfriend happens to be insanely wealthy (this much I can confirm) and I assume this is at least part of how he could be a member of BG. He went to a recent gathering there, at least in part, to play his pedal steel with others there. (So she claims. Let that sentence hover over everything else that follows that I attribute to her) She also claims to have been able to go on the grounds there and to step inside the owl you have pictured in your post. Even if it was prior to the gathering, I’m still suspicious. I’ve always understood they are very careful and particular about who gets past the gates. And unless I’m mistaken, it’s a “No Girls Allowed” affair. All this to say, after grilling her about it, as she has always been 1) a staunch feminist and 2) very against the power elite and all it does and represents, all she could say was that the bottom line for membership wasn’t about power, influence, wealth, connections, or even ‘occult’ doings but whether or not you could “boogie”.
Yes, “boogie” was the word she used.
I still am shaking my head over that one.
I asked her if Nixon, Bush, Spiro Agnew or Henry Kissinger could “boogie”.
I received no reply to that.
Boogie,

That story is hilarious, HCE!
It’s amazing how quickly even so-called progressives are tricked by the image and the energy these folks exude, especially when they meet them in person. Newsflash: these folks know how to be convincing in person. I once studied with an NLP trainer who corroborated some things I’d read. I told him that I was studying NLP because I wanted wanted to learn the tricks being used on us and I mentioned Bill Clinton and Al Gore using NLP. This guy smiled real wide and got silent for a moment. And then in the most diplomatic language possible, he confirmed that both Clinton and Gore had NLP coaches.
“The man” knows how to play with image. S/he’s just as likely to look like a hipster or a hip-hop all-star as a grey suit with a constipated walk and a serious expression.
And I wouldn’t be surprised if Kissinger can boogie. He’s said to be quite popular with the ladies. But boogie or no boogie, he’s still Kissinger. Nixon was still Nixon, and just cause you can dance or you like “my kind” of music doesn’t mean I’m gonna trust ya.
Unfortunately, I think there are a lot of people who do “trust” based on such superficial standards and some of them even actually believe that they are “progressives” or some other such label that they equate with being a “good guy.”
Maybe.
Glad you enjoyed that, I hoped you would. Wasn’t sure how well my writing conveyed what I’d experienced as my brain was starved for lack of anything other than caffiene.
People will never cease to puzzle and surprise me.
This is not neccesarily a negative, but I never get used to being caught off guard, particularly with those I’ve known for some time (in this case decades)
Just goes to show, *everyone* changes, but few grow.
